Latest Information is that tours will be extended again through the Spring of 2002
Staff reports
The Friends of the Hunley have extended tours of the
Warren Lasch Conservation Center, including a peek at the Confederate submarine
in its holding tank, through the end of the year.
The summer tours ended over the Labor Day weekend in
anticipation of the second phase of the sub's excavation that will begin in the
next few weeks. But on Wednesday, Friends of the Hunley Chairman Warren Lasch
said the tours could continue without interfering with the archaeological work.
Weekend tours resume Sept. 22 and run from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. on Saturdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays through Dec. 30. There will
be no tours Dec. 21-23. Also, there will be additional Friday tours in November
and December.
"The new tour schedule will enable the visitors to
see the Hunley while she is undergoing the last phase of excavation," Lasch
said.
